Luis Muriel: a big possibility for Giallorossi’s transfer agendas
According to reports by Alfredo Pedulla, Roma have made enquiries about the availability of Luis Muriel and Mario Pašalić. The Giallorossi management held a meeting with the managers of Atalanta on Wednesday.
The report understands that the profiles of both Muriel and Pašalić please the transfer agendas of Jose Mourinho. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the Colombian could leave Atalanta this summer, owing to his contract situation with the Italian club.
This might be Luis Muriel’s time to leave Bergamo three years after his €21.2m signing from Sevilla, as they failed to qualify for Europe and his contract will expire in June 2023.
The Giallorossi are very interested in the 31-year-old striker for a back-up role going into next season, allowing José Mourinho to have a wider selection of attacking options.
Muriel holds the joint record for most Serie A goals scored off the bench, giving him the reputation of a super-sub who can run at tired legs.
Muriel was once described by Serie A as “Skill, talent and speed make the Colombian one of the best strikers in Serie A. In terms of scoring efficiency, Muriel is the best.” Giallorossi still have the mental and emotional scars from the various times the Colombian has scored against the club, none more emphatic than the goal he scored back in 2020.
Despite La Dea suffering a disappointing campaign within the Serie A under Gasperini, the Colombian international seems to be unfazed as he managed to maintain a great course of form, amassing a total of 9 goals and providing 8 assists in 27 domestic league appearances.
The Giallorossi currently lack strong depth within the striker position as Mourinho only possesses Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shomurodov within his hand of cards. As a result, the Portuguese tactician is keen on signing Muriel in order to improve his current squad’s productivity within the final third of the pitch.
